What you need to apply

General country requirements

This entry is general Bachelor’s admission in Switzerland: the university is in the catalogue but its individual programme pages are not verified yet, so the country's general requirements are shown instead.

Check the university’s own page before you plan around it.

Switzerland, bachelor’s

An Uzbek attestat on its own does not open a Swiss bachelor. The swissuniversities country table for the academic year 2026/27 says that Basel, Bern, Fribourg, Geneva, Lausanne, Lucerne, Neuchatel, Zurich and USI want a university degree of at least 3 years on top of the certificate, and St. Gallen adds the HSG selection procedure. There are two exceptions: EPFL admits on the certificate plus its own entrance examination, and ETH Zurich on the certificate plus a certificate of university admission from a recognised Uzbek university plus a reduced entrance examination. Teaching at those universities is in German, French or Italian, and the table closes with language skills and/or exams under reserve, so the university sets the language and the level.

With an Uzbek attestat (11 years)

One year at a university in Uzbekistan

The swissuniversities country table lists the Uzbek Certificate of General Secondary Education (after 11 years) as a recognised school-leaving certificate, but the admission requirement for Basel, Bern, Fribourg, Geneva, Lausanne, Lucerne, Neuchatel, Zurich and USI is a University degree (at least 3 years). The bridge is therefore not one year but a completed degree at a home university, the strongest form of the route recorded here as university study before applying. EPFL and ETH Zurich instead put an entrance examination on top of the certificate.

Documents

  • School certificate

The Uzbek upper secondary school-leaving certificates swissuniversities recognises are the Akademik litsey diplomi (Diploma of Academic Lyceum) and the Umumiy o'rta ta'lim to'g'risida attestat / shahodatnoma, the Certificate of General Secondary Education after 11 years.

    Probably right

  • Academic transcript

The certificate has to show the general education subjects of the last 3 years: first language, second language, mathematics, natural sciences, humanities and social sciences and an elective, so the grade record goes in with it.

    Probably right

  • Passport

The long-stay visa is issued in a passport at a Swiss representation abroad; the federal entry page describes the procedure rather than listing the documents.

  • Certified translation

An Uzbek certificate or diploma is issued in Uzbek, so a translation into the language of the university is what an admissions office works from; the swissuniversities table states the qualifications and not the translation rules.

  • Apostille

Switzerland (in force 11 March 1973) and Uzbekistan (15 April 2012) are both parties to the Hague Apostille Convention, so an Uzbek education document carries an apostille rather than consular legalisation.

    Probably right

  • Financial statementOptional

Proof that you can pay for your studies and your living belongs to a Swiss student permit file, but the federal pages read here state neither the rule nor an amount — the cantonal migration office and the Swiss representation name it.

  • PhotographOptional

A photograph belongs to a visa and permit file, but the federal pages read here do not list it — check the form at the Swiss representation where you apply.

Tests

  • Any one of these is enough

    Teaching is in German

The swissuniversities country table closes the Uzbekistan entry with the words language skills and/or exams under reserve, so the university sets the language and the level; German is the language of Basel, Bern, Luzern and Zurich. These four language rows are alternatives: you need the language your university teaches in, not all of them.

  • Teaching is in French

The same reservation about language skills and/or exams covers the French-speaking universities of Fribourg, Geneva, Lausanne and Neuchatel. These four language rows are alternatives: you need the language your university teaches in, not all of them.

  • Teaching is in ItalianOptional

Universita della Svizzera italiana (USI) teaches in Italian and appears in the same table with the same reservation about language skills and exams. These four language rows are alternatives: you need the language your university teaches in, not all of them.

  • Teaching is in EnglishOptional

    Not checked yet

English-taught degrees exist in Switzerland mostly at master level; the official country table names no English test and no score, so the university states both. These four language rows are alternatives: you need the language your university teaches in, not all of them.
