The Rotary Yoneyama Memorial Foundation pays a monthly allowance to overseas students who are about to enrol at a Japanese university or graduate school. You apply from abroad: first to the university, then separately for the scholarship. The foundation's 2027 guide requires citizenship of any country other than Japan at the time of entry and an age under 45, and the page asks for JLPT N3 or above at the time of application.

What it covers

Monthly stipend

The allowance is 100,000 yen a month for undergraduates and 140,000 yen for master's and doctoral students. A travel subsidy of up to 250,000 yen towards the journey to Japan is available against receipts submitted after arrival. Tuition is not covered, and research students are not eligible.

For both April and autumn 2027 enrolment, applications run from 13:00 JST on 1 October 2026 to 13:00 JST on 31 October 2026. Results are notified by email by the middle of March 2027.
