What documents and grades do you need to study in the United Kingdom?

UK bachelor admission runs through UCAS: up to five courses, a personal statement and a school reference. Universities expect 13 years of schooling (A-levels or equivalent), so an 11-year Uzbek attestat normally needs a foundation year first. The visa asks for CEFR B2 English, a CAS and money held for 28 days. Always check the exact grades on the course page.

Foundation year

An Uzbek 11-year attestat is normally one year short of direct entry to a UK bachelor programme, so most applicants start with a one-year International Foundation Year. Foundation entry asks for the attestat, certified translations and usually IELTS 5.0–5.5. For the visa the Home Office asks for CEFR B1 English below degree level and money held in the account for 28 days. Passing the foundation year takes you into year one of the same university.

With an Uzbek attestat (11 years)

Foundation year

This is the route itself: one foundation year, then year one of the bachelor programme.

Documents

  • School certificate

The Uzbek school-leaving certificate with its supplement of grades.

  • Academic transcript

The year-by-year marks behind the certificate. Universities read them, not only the final average.

  • Certified translation

Certified English translations of every document that is not already in English.

  • English certificate

The test report that proves CEFR B2 (or B1 below degree level) for the visa, and whatever score the course itself asks for.

    Probably right

  • Passport

A valid passport with a blank page for the vignette.

    Probably right

  • Financial statement

The Home Office asks for £1,529 per month in London or £1,171 per month outside London, for up to 9 months, plus the first year of tuition. The money must sit in the account for 28 days in a row and the statement must end within 31 days of the visa application.

    Probably right

  • Motivation letterOptional

Foundation providers that recruit directly often ask for a short statement instead of the UCAS personal statement.

  • PhotographOptional

A digital photograph is taken at the visa application centre, so most applicants do not upload one. Universities sometimes ask for a photo with the application itself.

Tests

  • Any one of these is enough

    IELTS 5

Typical foundation entry score. Not a Home Office figure — check the provider.

  • TOEFL iBT 42

Typical foundation equivalent of IELTS 5.0. Check the provider.

  • PTE Academic 38

Typical foundation equivalent of IELTS 5.0. Check the provider.

Minimum grades and years of school

  • 11 years of school

A foundation year is designed for school-leaving certificates that fall short of A-level entry, which is what the 11-year attestat does.

  • 3.5 on the Uzbek 5-point scale

An indicative attestat average for a foundation offer. Every provider publishes its own grades — read the course page.

Other requirements

  • At least 16 years old

The Student visa is for applicants aged 16 or over. At 16 or 17 you also have to show written consent from your parents.

  • English at CEFR level B1 for a course below degree level

A foundation year sits below degree level, so the visa requirement is B1 rather than B2.

  • Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) issued by a licensed student sponsor

You cannot apply for the visa until the university has offered you a place and issued a CAS.

  • Tuberculosis test certificate from a clinic approved by the Home Office

Uzbekistan is on the Home Office's TB test list, so anyone who has lived there for six months or more and applies to stay in the UK longer than six months needs a certificate from a Home Office approved clinic. The same page links the list of clinics in Uzbekistan.

Minimum grades and years of school

  • 13 years of school

Year-one entry follows 13 years of school in the UK system. UCAS advises international applicants to have their qualification compared by UK ENIC; an 11-year attestat comes out below A-level.

  • 4 on the Uzbek 5-point scale

An indicative attestat average for a competitive offer after a foundation year. Providers publish their own grades.

Master’s

UK master applications go straight to the university, not through UCAS. You need the bachelor degree and transcript, a personal statement, one or two references, a CV and an English certificate — usually IELTS 6.5 with 6.0 in each band. The visa asks for CEFR B2, a CAS and money held for 28 days. A completed degree is required, not partial study.

No bridging year is needed at master level: a completed bachelor degree lets you apply directly.
