How to apply to study in Malaysia from Uzbekistan

Data read from the sources: 15 September 2026

What documents and grades do you need to study in Malaysia?

Teaching in Malaysia is almost entirely in English, so the English certificate is the key requirement: EMGS asks you to upload it with the VAL application. You apply to the university, and the student pass is processed by EMGS. An 11-year attestat usually needs a Foundation year first. Medical screening happens both before and after arrival.

Foundation year

Malaysian universities run one-year Foundation programmes, a formal step into the bachelor degree. With an 11-year Uzbek attestat this is usually the route taken. Documents go through EMGS: attestat, transcript, passport, medical screening and an English certificate. Passing the Foundation takes you into the bachelor programme of the same university.

Foundation year

This is the route itself: one Foundation year, then the bachelor programme.

Documents

  • School certificate

The school-leaving certificate, uploaded to the EMGS application.

  • Academic transcript

The grade supplement behind the certificate.

  • English certificate

EMGS asks you to upload the English certificate with the VAL application; leaving it out delays processing and can shorten the student pass.

  • Passport

A passport with at least twelve months’ validity, every page scanned for the EMGS application.

  • Photograph

A passport photograph meeting the EMGS specification — white background, full face.

  • Certified translation

Certified English translations of certificates and transcripts that are not already in English.

  • Financial statementOptional

    Not checked yet

Universities ask self-funded applicants to show they can pay tuition and living costs; the amount is the institution’s, not a single national figure.

Tests

  • Any one of these is enough

    IELTS 5

Typical foundation entry score. EMGS requires an acceptable level of English but the figure is the university’s.

  • TOEFL iBT 42

Typical foundation equivalent of IELTS 5.0. Check the university.

Minimum grades and years of school

  • 11 years of school

Foundation programmes exist for exactly this case: a school-leaving qualification that is not yet enough for direct bachelor entry.

  • 3 on the Uzbek 5-point scale

An indicative attestat average for a foundation offer. Each university publishes its own entry grades.

Other requirements

  • Visa Approval Letter (VAL) from EMGS before you travel

Education Malaysia Global Services processes the student pass; the university submits the VAL application on your behalf.

  • Pre-arrival medical screening, then a post-arrival medical check in Malaysia

EMGS requires a health examination form with the application and a second screening after arrival.

Bachelor’s

With an Uzbek attestat (11 years)

Foundation year

An 11-year attestat is normally short of direct bachelor entry: a one-year Foundation programme comes first, then year one.

Documents

  • School certificate

The school-leaving certificate, or the Foundation certificate where you took one.

  • Academic transcript

The grade supplement behind the certificate.

  • English certificate

Uploading it late delays the application and can mean a student pass shorter than the course.

  • Passport

A passport with at least twelve months’ validity, every page scanned for the EMGS application.

  • Photograph

A passport photograph meeting the EMGS specification — white background, full face.

  • Certified translation

Certified English translations of certificates and transcripts that are not already in English.

  • Motivation letterOptional

    Not checked yet

Asked for by some universities and by scholarship schemes; not part of the EMGS set.

  • Financial statementOptional

    Not checked yet

Universities ask self-funded applicants to show they can pay tuition and living costs; the amount is the institution’s, not a single national figure.

Tests

  • Any one of these is enough

    IELTS 6

EMGS requires an acceptable level of English proficiency and the certificate uploaded with the VAL application; IELTS 6.0 is the usual bachelor figure, set by the university rather than by EMGS.

    Probably right

  • TOEFL iBT 60

Typical bachelor equivalent. Confirm with the university.

  • PTE Academic 50

Typical bachelor equivalent. Confirm with the university.

Minimum grades and years of school

  • 12 years of school

Direct bachelor entry is built on a twelve-year qualification such as STPM, A-levels or a recognised Foundation. An 11-year attestat normally goes through Foundation first.

  • 3.5 on the Uzbek 5-point scale

An indicative average for a direct bachelor offer where the qualification is accepted. Universities publish their own grades.

Master’s

A Malaysian master takes a completed bachelor degree directly. The English certificate — usually IELTS 6.0–6.5 — is uploaded with the EMGS application. The documents are the diploma, transcript, passport, a CV, a motivation letter and references. Research-track programmes ask for a research proposal.
