What documents and grades do you need to study in Russia?

You apply to a Russian bachelor directly or through the state quota on education-in-russia.com. The documents are notarised Russian translations of the passport and the attestat, a recognition certificate where one is needed, and medical certificates. Each university sets its own entrance examinations and deadlines. If your Russian is short, the preparatory faculty comes first.

Foundation year

Russian universities run a preparatory faculty for international applicants: Russian plus the subjects of the chosen field, normally one year. Under the state quota the preparatory programme can be free. The documents are notarised Russian translations of the passport and the attestat, plus medical certificates. Finishing it takes you into the bachelor programme of the same university.

With an Uzbek attestat (11 years)

Foundation year

This is the route itself: a year at the preparatory faculty, then the bachelor programme. Under the quota that year can be free.

Minimum grades and years of school

  • 11 years of school

Russian and Uzbek school systems are close, so the attestat is normally accepted; a recognition certificate settles it where the university asks for one.

  • 3.5 on the Uzbek 5-point scale

An indicative attestat average. Universities rank on their own entrance examinations rather than on the certificate alone.

Master’s

A Russian master takes a completed bachelor degree: notarised Russian translations of the diploma and transcript, a translated passport and medical certificates. Most programmes set an entrance examination or an interview, and research tracks ask for a research plan. The state quota is an alternative route.
