What documents and grades do you need to study in France?

A French application goes through the Études en France platform: you upload the documents, sit the Campus France interview and then apply for the visa. French-taught programmes require at least B2, proved by DELF, DALF or a TCF/TEF test. Certified French translations of the attestat and the grades are required. English-taught programmes exist too and ask for IELTS or TOEFL.

Bachelor’s

With an Uzbek attestat (11 years)

Language year

The attestat itself is usually enough, but French at B2 is not optional: many Uzbek applicants take a one-year FLE language course first. With a B2 certificate in hand you can apply straight to year one of the licence.

Documents

  • School certificate

The school-leaving certificate, uploaded to Études en France with a certified French translation.

  • Academic transcript

School grades for the final years, also in certified French translation.

  • Motivation letter

Each choice on Études en France carries its own motivation letter; the Campus France interview is built around them.

  • CV

A CV is part of the Études en France file.

  • Other document

A birth certificate with a certified French translation is part of the standard Études en France document set.

Tests

  • Teaching is in French

Candidates are required to have a minimum B2 level of French, proved by DELF or DALF; those without one take a TCF through the local Alliance Française. A registration for the test can stand in while results are awaited.

    Probably right

  • Any one of these is enough

    IELTS 6Optional

Only for English-taught programmes. Typical score, not an official figure.

  • TOEFL iBT 80Optional

Typical English-taught equivalent, where such a programme exists.

Minimum grades and years of school

  • 11 years of school

French admission rests on a secondary diploma that gives access to higher education in the country that issued it, rather than on a year count — which is what the attestat does in Uzbekistan.

  • 3.5 on the Uzbek 5-point scale

An indicative attestat average. French universities weigh the school record and the Campus France interview together.

Other requirements

  • Application through the Études en France platform, with a Campus France interview

Études en France manages the whole enrolment procedure up to the visa request; the local Campus France office runs the interview and forwards the file.

  • Health insurance, then registration with the French student health scheme after arrival

    Not checked yet

Students register with the national health insurance once in France; cover is still required for the visa itself.

Master’s

A French master takes a completed bachelor degree through Études en France. French-taught programmes ask for B2 and often C1; English-taught ones for IELTS 6.5. The documents are the diploma, transcript, a CV, a separate motivation letter for each choice and certified French translations. The Campus France interview is part of the procedure.

Straight into the first year

A completed bachelor degree lets you apply directly; no bridging year, though a French-taught programme still needs B2–C1.
