What documents and grades do you need to study in Saudi Arabia?

An international applicant to a Saudi bachelor applies through the ministry’s Study in Saudi Arabia platform; the ministry writes that the admission requirements applicable to Saudis apply to its scholarship students, and sets an age window of 17 to 25 on that same scholarships page. Documents are attested by the competent authorities the institution specifies; Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan are both in the Apostille Convention, so that attestation is an apostille. The long-term study visa asks for proof of proficiency in the language of study but names no test and no score. The platform’s programme search filters by language of study and offers Arabic, Arabic and English together, Chinese, English and French, so the language depends on the programme you pick.

Foundation year

Saudi Arabia lists a diploma in Arabic for non-native speakers among the levels open to international students: this is the language route, and the long-term study visa waives the language proof for applicants coming to study Arabic. The ministry sets an age window of 17 to 25 for that route, as a condition of its government scholarships. You need a passport with at least six months' validity, an acceptance letter, proof of funds, a medical report on freedom from infectious diseases, medical insurance and a certificate of no criminal record. The application goes through the ministry's Study in Saudi Arabia platform.

With an Uzbek attestat (11 years)

Language year

This is the route itself: the diploma in Arabic for non-native speakers. The source says nothing about an Uzbek 11-year attestat, so the language year is read in the most conservative way — as a separate stage that does not by itself guarantee a place on a degree. Confirm bachelor entry with the university separately.

Documents

  • School certificate

The school-leaving certificate is the qualification the institution attests and judges; the ministry asks you to attest certificates and supporting papers from the competent authorities specified by the educational institution.

  • Passport

A valid passport with at least 6 months validity from the intended date of entry to the Kingdom.

  • Financial statement

Proof of financial ability to cover tuition and living expenses or a financial guarantee. The page states no amount, so none is given here.

  • Apostille

    Not compared by a person

Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan are both contracting parties to the 1961 Apostille Convention (Saudi Arabia in force 7-XII-2022, Uzbekistan 15-IV-2012), so the attestation of an Uzbek education document for Saudi Arabia is an apostille rather than consular legalisation. The Saudi pages say only competent authorities, so confirm the chain with the institution.

  • Certified translationOptional

    Not compared by a person

The ministry names no translation rule, only attestation by the competent authorities the institution specifies. An Uzbek document is normally submitted with a certified Arabic or English translation, and the institution is where to confirm which language it wants.

  • PhotographOptional

No page read for this file lists photographs among the required documents. The platform leaves the rest of the file to the institution, which normally asks for passport photographs, so have them ready.

Other requirements

  • Between 17 and 25 years old

The student should not be less than 17 years old and not more than 25 years for the undergraduate and institute for teaching Arabic language or the equivalent. The study-visa page sets a lower floor of 16, so the scholarship rule is the stricter one. The ministry states this on its public-universities scholarships page, as a condition of the government scholarships it awards, so a self-funded applicant should check the age rule with the university itself.

  • At least 16 years old

The study visa pages state that the applicant must be 16 years of age or older, for both the short-term and the long-term study visa.

  • Diploma in Arabic for non-native speakers at a Saudi public university

The ministry lists the levels open to international students as Diploma in Arabic for non-native speakers, Bachelor, Higher Diploma, Masters and PhD, and sets the age limit for the undergraduate and institute for teaching Arabic language at 25. Those levels and that age limit are the terms of the ministry’s government scholarships, internal and external, not a universal admission rule.

  • Application through the Ministry of Education's Study in Saudi Arabia platform

Asked where to apply, the platform answers: you can apply through the Study in Saudi Arabia platform at https://studyinsaudi.sa

  • Acceptance from a licensed and accredited educational institution in the Kingdom before the visa

The long-term study visa asks for acceptance from a licensed and accredited educational institution in the Kingdom.

  • Medical report confirming freedom from infectious diseases

The long-term study visa asks for a medical report confirming freedom from infectious diseases; the platform's requirements answer repeats it as a medical report proving freedom from infectious diseases.

  • Medical insurance document for the visa holder and dependents

The long-term study visa asks for a medical insurance document for the visa holder and dependents.

  • Certificate of absence of precedents from the security services in your country

Among the conditions for accepting non-Saudi international students, the ministry asks the student to present a certificate of absence of precedents from the security services in his country.

  • Attestation of certificates and supporting papers by the competent authorities

The ministry's condition is to attest certificates and supporting papers from the competent authorities specified by the educational institution; the platform repeats it as attested certificates and required documents per the educational institution's requirements.

  • Short-term study visa for a language year, where the programme is under six monthsOptional

The short-term visa covers study, training, or participation in short-term programs in Saudi Arabia for a period not exceeding six months, suitable for language study, short-term programs, and student exchange programs, and runs up to 6 months, extendable for an additional 6 months.

  • Language proof waived for an applicant coming to study ArabicOptional

The long-term study visa asks for proof of proficiency in the language of study, except for those wishing to study Arabic, so the Arabic diploma is the route that does not need the language first.

  • Approval of the student's own government where that country requires itOptional

The ministry's condition reads: that the government of the student's country approves the study in the Kingdom for countries that require it.

  • Mahram condition as the ministry's regulating instructions set itOptional

The ministry lists as a condition that he has a mahram with the student, according to the instructions regulating that, provided that he is covered by a grant or has a regular residence or is on the register of an employer in need of his services. The page does not say which applicants it applies to, so check it with the university before you apply.

Bachelor’s

With an Uzbek attestat (11 years)

One year at a university in Uzbekistan

The ministry says: "the admission requirements applicable to Saudis in institutions of higher education apply to internal and external scholarship students". Saudi schooling is longer than the Uzbek eleven years, and the source says nothing about an Uzbek attestat. So the most conservative option is taken: add a further year in Uzbekistan after the attestat — a college, a lyceum or a first university year — before applying; the educational institution makes the recognition decision. The sentence quoted above is written about scholarship students, so confirm with the university whether it applies to a self-funded applicant too.

Documents

  • School certificate

The school-leaving certificate is the qualification a bachelor place is judged on, and the ministry asks for certificates and supporting papers attested by the competent authorities specified by the educational institution.

  • Academic transcriptOptional

The ministry names certificates and supporting papers without listing them one by one, so the grade supplement is part of that set rather than a separately named document. Prepare it with the certificate.

  • English certificateOptional

An English certificate is what proof of proficiency in the language of study means on an English-taught programme; the visa page names no test and no score, and an Arabic-taught programme asks for Arabic instead.

Master’s

A Saudi master takes a completed bachelor degree, and the ministry sets an age limit of 30 for it on its government-scholarships page. The application goes through the ministry's Study in Saudi Arabia platform, and documents are attested by the competent authorities the institution specifies and carry an apostille. The long-term study visa asks for a passport valid at least six months, an acceptance letter, proof of funds, a medical report, medical insurance and proof of proficiency in the language of study. Programmes run in Arabic, in Arabic and English together, in Chinese, in English and in French, and no national language score is published.

With an Uzbek attestat (11 years)

Straight into the first year

The entry document for a master is the bachelor degree, not the attestat: the ministry lists the master's among the levels open to international students and sets its age limit at 30. With a completed Uzbek bachelor degree you apply directly.
