What documents and grades do you need to study in Türkiye?

International applicants in Türkiye apply straight to the universities, but first obtain denklik from YÖK — recognition of the school certificate. Many universities require the TR-YÖS exam; SAT, IB and Abitur are also accepted. Turkish-taught programmes test your Turkish and send you to a one-year hazırlık class if it is short; English-taught ones ask for IELTS or TOEFL. Documents are translated into Turkish by a sworn translator.

With an Uzbek attestat (11 years)

Straight into the first year

An Uzbek attestat allows direct entry, but denklik from YÖK comes first and most universities want TR-YÖS. A Turkish-taught programme adds a hazırlık year if your Turkish is short.

  • TOEFL iBT 72

Typical English-taught equivalent. Confirm with the university.

  • SAT 1,100 (optional)Optional

Universities publish which exams they accept for their international quota — TR-YÖS, university YÖS, Abitur, SAT, IB among them. The score here is indicative, not a published minimum.

Minimum grades and years of school

  • 11 years of school

Turkish admission turns on the denklik decision rather than a year count, so the number here is the attestat itself, not a threshold YÖK publishes.

  • 3.5 on the Uzbek 5-point scale

An indicative attestat average. Universities rank on the exam score and the school record together.

Other requirements

  • Equivalence Certificate (denklik) for the foreign school-leaving certificate, issued by YÖK

For foreign qualifications the original or a copy of the YÖK Equivalence Certificate is part of the admission documents.

  • Health insurance valid in Türkiye, or enrolment in the SGK scheme after arrival

    Not compared by a person

Required for the residence permit that follows the student visa.

  • TR-YÖS, the international student admission exam run by ÖSYMOptional

Held twice a year in Turkish, German, Arabic, French, English and Russian. Turkish language skills are not required to sit it. Whether you need it depends on the university.

Master’s

A Turkish master takes a completed bachelor degree, and YÖK denklik may be required for the diploma as well. Many programmes ask for an ALES or GRE score, and Turkish-taught ones for a level of Turkish. The documents are the diploma, transcript, a sworn Turkish translation, a motivation letter, a CV and references. Selection often ends in an interview or a subject examination.
