What documents and grades do you need to study in the United States?
US universities generally accept an Uzbek 11-year attestat, so you can apply to a bachelor programme directly. The application goes through the Common App or the university’s own system: attestat and transcript, an essay, school references, an activities list and an English certificate. SAT or ACT is optional at many universities, though a strong score helps with aid. The visa needs the I-20, the SEVIS fee and financial documents covering the first year.
Bachelor’s
With an Uzbek attestat (11 years)
Straight into the first year
An 11-year attestat is normally enough for direct bachelor entry in the US — no foundation year. A few universities ask for a credential evaluation or a first year at a community college instead.
Documents
School certificate
The school-leaving certificate, sent with the school report.
Academic transcript
A copy of your high-school transcript, usually submitted by the counsellor with the School Report.
Certified translation
Certified English translations of the attestat and the transcript.
Motivation letter
The Common App personal essay. Colleges can make it optional or required, and most add their own supplemental essays.
Letter of recommendation
A counsellor recommendation plus one or two teacher recommendations is the usual set.
English certificate
The TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo or PTE report.
Passport
Valid for at least six months beyond the intended period of stay for most applicants.
Photograph
A photograph meeting the State Department specification, uploaded with the DS-160.
Financial statement
Evidence that you can pay tuition and living costs for the first year. The figure is the university’s cost of attendance, so read it off your own I-20 rather than from a general table.
CVOptional
The Common App activities section replaces a CV for most colleges; some ask for a resume as well.

Tests
Any one of these is enough
TOEFL iBT 80
Typical undergraduate requirement. Selective universities ask for 90–100; community colleges accept less.
IELTS 6.5
Typical undergraduate equivalent of TOEFL iBT 80.
Duolingo English Test 110
Widely accepted since 2020, but not everywhere — confirm on the admissions page.
PTE Academic 53
Typical undergraduate equivalent. Check the admissions page.
SAT 1,200 (optional)Optional
Every college has different testing requirements and many are test-optional; 1200 is an indicative score for a competitive application, not a stated minimum.
ACT 25 (optional)Optional
The alternative to the SAT, with the same test-optional caveat.

Minimum grades and years of school
11 years of school
US admission is based on the secondary-school record as a whole rather than a fixed number of years; an Uzbek attestat is normally accepted. A few universities ask for an additional year or a credential evaluation.
4 on the Uzbek 5-point scale
An indicative attestat average for a competitive application. US universities convert to a 4.0 GPA themselves and read the transcript, not only the average.

Other requirements
Form I-20 issued by the university after it has seen your financial documents
The F-1 visa is applied for against the I-20; the university issues it only once admission and funding are settled.
I-901 SEVIS fee paid before the visa interview
The SEVIS fee is separate from the visa fee; check the current amount on the official site before paying. Citation repointed: the page this was read from now returns 404 and the link goes to the section root of the same official site. The rule has not been re-read since the page moved.

Master’s
US master applications go straight to the university: bachelor degree and transcript, a statement of purpose, two or three recommendations, a CV and an English certificate. Many programmes ask for the GRE or GMAT, though the requirement has been widely relaxed. The visa needs the I-20, the SEVIS fee and financial documents for the first year.

A completed bachelor degree lets you apply directly; no bridging year.
Documents

The full university transcript, often through a credential evaluation service such as WES.
Certified translation
Certified English translations of the diploma and transcript.

The statement of purpose, written for this department and this research area.

Usually three letters, at least two of them academic.
CV
An academic CV with research, publications and work experience.
